Fuquay Varina, North Carolina
I've spent most of my career talking with users to understand better how they engage with digital products. I started as a UI Designer with the McClatchy Company's online news division. I led the team that was responsible for the design of 30 daily newspaper websites and apps.
Shortly after joining McClatchy, I began building a UX testing program, with a budget that just covered snacks and small incentives for readers who would take the time to sit with us and work through tasks to test the usability of our classifieds and news interfaces. Our methodology was simple, and we learned things about our users that were surprising and helped us improve our sites.
Over time, I built a UX team that utilized the full spectrum of testing methodologies. We hosted user interview studies twice a month, where we tested current projects for validation and UX optimization. We were thoroughly equipped to conduct analytic a/b tests on our websites and apps. We also did more in-depth foundational research to understand user motivations and perceptions around local news to advise on content and product strategies.
We worked with every aspect of the business, providing user feedback and connecting company goals with reader needs. We were responsible for understanding complicated development platforms to provide a UX strategy that resulted in products that were easier to use, met the needs of our readers, and supported the company’s business goals.
